Forgive me...

Forgive me, followers, for I have sinned. It has been three days since I've updated the blog. :-)

And speaking of sins... I went to the movies today and had popcorn. The super-small, kid-sized, no butter variety. But it was salty, and it was goooood. We'll have to wait until I weigh in the morning to see if I messed up. It's a lot more carbs than I've had in a long time, but I think it's fine. At this point, having reached my halfway point, I'm a little more willing to have a small treat occasionally. But I still have my goal in sight, and a little treat is not going to get me all out of whack and feeling like a failure. I just give myself the reward, then jump right back on the low-cal wagon! Those emotions that used to give me that defeated feeling are no longer running the show. Hallelujah!!

  1. Ok.. do 3 HAIL MARY's !! But stay away from that Pop corn!! Smuggle in your air popped corn! 1/2 cup of corn gives you a ton of pop corn to snack on. Buy the srpay on butter . Zero calories and salt is ok.
    Congrats #8!!!

My question is..."What movie did you see?!!"

  3. Carol is the only one who still sneaks in popcorn! LOL I usually just have a little mini-Clif bar during a movie, but we went to the cheap show where you get a food coupon with admission. So I got my popcorn and diet soda. And the movie? "Tooth Fairy". Gotta love the Rock. :-)

  4. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but
ordering a medium popcorn and soda combo from a major national movie theater chain is the equivalent of eating three McDonald's Quarter Pounders with 12 pats of butter, according to a new study by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

According to laboratory analysis conducted by the Center for Science and Public Interest (CSPI), the concessions from Regal, the country's biggest movie chain, have 1,160 calories and three days worth - 60 grams - of fat. Regal said that the medium popcorn had 720 calories and the large had 960, but CSPI's tests found those numbers to be understated. A small popcorn at Regal had 670 calories - the same as a Pizza Hut Personal Pepperoni Pan Pizza. Even if you share a small popcorn - it's still about a day's worth of saturated fat per person, according to CSPI.

"It’s hard enough for Americans to maintain a healthy weight even when limiting their eating to breakfast, lunch, and dinner," said CSPI senior nutritionist Jayne Hurley. "Who realizes that they might be taking in a meal’s worth of calories during a movie? Splitting a medium popcorn with two other people sounds like a reasonable thing to do, but who would think they’re getting an entire day’s worth of saturated fat?"

1/2 cup of air popped popcorn is 30 calories.. much better, yes?

  5. Hey! Who invited the wet blanket?? :-)

We have a hot air popper at home that we've used for years. But we haven't even HAD popcorn at all for months. Today was a treat, and as a treat, we adjusted our daily intake to account for the extra calories in the treat. The popcorn was a super-small, served in a little brown lunch bag. It might have had 500-600 calories, but it's hard to say. I didn't have extra butter added, but the oil they pop it in is not great for you. I admit that. It's alright though... I'm still on my game. No worries. :-)
